Liam is 12 Weeks Today!

I knew this time would fly by, but I just didn’t realize just how quickly!!  I am really dreading going back to work this week.  It is going to be so hard to leave him.  Before Liam was born, I was a bit concerned about my motherly instinct, whether or not if I had any.  I was not one that awed and cooed over other peoples babies.  But there are NO worries now; my motherly instinct has kicked in full force.  I have become a mother bear.  I have bonded with him on a level I never even knew existed, and I would protect him with my life.  All the stuff you hear about being a parent just makes sense once you are one.

This past week Liam has been such a great baby.  I do feel that we are getting the hang of one another, and it has been easier to figure out what he wants, when he wants it.  I do fear this next week is going to be a whirlwind for the both of us, trying to figure out our new schedule.  It will probably be a lot of trial and error until we figure out something that works for everyone.  One of the many reasons it is going to be so hard to leave him, is he is growing and changing so quickly, and I don’t want to miss a second of it.  He has officially grown out of his newborn diapers and clothes, has been for a while now.  He is actually nearly grown out of his 0-3 months clothes as well, and will be into the 3-6 month clothes before I know it!  He is not only smiling more, he is smiling back at us.  A couple times this week when he woke up for his 2-3 am feeding he just laid in his bassinet “talking” and smiling at me.  I just sat there watching him grinning from ear to ear.  He has started to play with his hands, which is a developmental milestone for babies his age.  His neck is pretty strong now and he can almost hold his head up without any support.  He continues to kick his legs and arms like crazy too.  He has started to grasp things better, like his rattle; he will hold onto it and shake it for a while before he throws it.  He also has started to recognize us as his caretakers, and is comforted when we walk into the room, another milestone for his age.  One thing that isn’t such a pleasant development is he is spitting up more.  He really didn’t spit up before, but now it’s almost like his appetite is growing quicker than his stomach can hold.  Although the past day or so it hasn’t been quite as bad, so hopefully this means it’s catching up.  Anyway, this week will be interesting if nothing else, and I’m sure I will have lots to write about….wish us luck, (and hopefully enough sleep!)

Liam is 11 Weeks

Liam continues to get cuter and cuter everyday, if that is even possible!  I was fortunate to be able to take 12 weeks off for my maternity leave.  I am so grateful to have had this time with him since his birth. I have enjoyed every minute of it, and I wouldn't trade it for anything!  Next week will be my last week off, and I will be very sad when I have to return to work. I will miss him deeply, but thankfully we have two loving Grandma's that are looking forward to taking care of him while I'm at work.

Liam is very fortunate that you have had this time with him. You are a wonderful mom and he is very lucky to have you and Mike for parents. He is also unbelievably cute. We are very excited to have a chance to share him.

Liam is 10 Weeks

Liam had his 2 month check up today.  We had guessed he weighed around 9 or 10 lbs. but, he is 11 lbs. 6 oz. now!  And is 23” long.   He has gained 5 lbs. and has grown 3.5” since his birth!  The sad part about his visit was he had to have 5 shots!  It was just so heartbreaking to hear him cry like that, but we know it is for the best.
He continues to get stronger with all his movements, and is starting to “talk” more.  He is tracking objects with his eyes, and has started to stare at our faces more. Sometimes he can get pretty fussy when we can’t figure out what he wants.  Usually, he’s just super tired, and when he stops fighting his nap, he will finally settle down. But overall he is a pretty content baby, and we feel so lucky to have him in our lives.

Liam is 2 Months

Not to brag or anything, but Liam gets a ton of compliments.  Some of the words people use to compliment him are: “adorable”, “cute”, “gorgeous”, and “beautiful”. One person who has never even met us saw his birth announcement picture on a message board and said: “What a beautiful baby.  Most of them are wrinkly and horrible at first, but yours looks as though he was sculpted by a Renaissance artist”. The most common adjective people use for him is “beautiful”.  This is our first baby, so we don’t have anything to compare it to, but it seems quite a high compliment when that is the number one word used to describe him.  And I know we are biased since we are his parents, but we do agree with them!

Liam just keeps growing!  It seems when we check out his new clothes, they seem like they will drown him, then we check them a week or so later and he’s nearly outgrown them?!  This week we noticed Liam sucking his thumb when he was really hungry.  It was really cute.  He is looking at us more, and we are noticing more hints of smiles (more than just the gassy ones).  It actually seems like he’s starting to react to our voices and smiles.  He is also becoming more expressive.  There is one expression he has of concern or worry, where his eyebrows turn down…he must get that one from me!

All in all we are having a great time taking care of this new little person.  We are excited to see all the new stages for him, but at the same time we want him to stay this way just a little longer.

8 Weeks

Liam turned 8 weeks today.  He is starting to be more and more aware of his environment everyday.  We have noticed that he likes to look at the ceiling fan go round, and he also will fixate on other objects that move, like the mechanism of a clock, or the flashing lights of the TV.  His muscles are getting really strong from his arm and leg movements that he does during his awake time, which is getting more frequent during the day.  After a feeding, he just loves to lay there, really content, almost as if he’s in a milk coma.  We are slowly getting somewhat a routine down, although he is growing and changing so quickly that the routine changes as fast as he does!

He is so cute. I love the milk coma idea, it's a perfect description. What a doll.
